Knitting (and spinning! The Good, the Bad, and the UGLY)

I'm supposed to be working on homework. I am to write a professional-quality educational journal article about reform models, books we read, and topics covered in class. Ick. Decided to take a break (hey, I have three paragraphs done) and found THIS. I love "Stir the pot, of love". giggle

Since my last post, I've worked a little on the second sleeve of Mariah. It's not quite as long as the first, but will be soon. I love the pattern but hate when I screw up a cable and don't notice it until three rows later. grrr

Yesterday I mowed the yard (front and back) and worked on my front flower bed. Sore today. I had to yank out the dead little Christmas tree pine-thingy and move the center pine to the end. Yes, the one in the middle of the row of three couldn't die. Noooo. Grumble.

I also planted some orange/pink snap dragons, white begonias, and yellow marigolds (gotta counter the Gamecock fan across the street). Would post a pic, but I should really get back to homework.

I have to pick Miguel up at MARTA at about 3 pm. He went to Mexico for a week and a half with one of his brothers to visit the brother still living there. While he was down there one of his uncles died. His mother came down for the funeral and that prompted him to stay longer than the original week he had planned on.

Strong storms are in the ATL forcast, but I hope his plane won't be delayed. He's supposed to call me when he lands so I know when to leave for MARTA. I already talked to him from Houston, so I know that he's at least back in the country. :)

UPDATE: As I was proofing this post, my weather radio sounded. Tornado Watch until 6 pm. Lovely. I just checked back on his flight status. His plane has left and you can keep watch with me by going HERE. It's flight number 1420. Hopefully we'll come back to a house that is standing.

My favorite TV sport to watch right now is NASCAR. I've gotten into The Chase for the Nextel Cup Series, the Busch Series, and I've even been watching the Craftsman Truck Series. My favorite driver is Kasey Kahne.

Kasey Kahne Posted by Hello

He is quiet, a great driver, and won Rookie of the Year for 2004. There is nothing better than knitting away during the pre-race shows on Speed TV, the race on FOX, and wrap-up shows on Speed. Anyone else out there a NASCAR knitter?

Last week Kasey got 5th place. Carl Edwards won the Nextel race and the Busch race and I was thrilled! He's my #2 fav guy to cheer for.

Be careful if you come to visit! Tiger will sneak a sip from your drink!

I have begun Mariah from Knitty.

Mariah Sleeves 3.24 Posted by Hello

I started Friday night (March 18th) and have been working on it a little everyday (especially during the races and before soccer games). I'm using Tahki Donegal Tweed Homespun Color 847. I brought it to work to do while the kids are working on their tests. I've gotten lots of compliments and lots of requests for sweaters (from my boys and girls at school). Sorry! They're all for me! Mwa ha ha!

I just fourn a Mariah Along and have joined! Yippee!

I've added comments.

:)

Hello everyone! Is spring here yet?

I had something snarky happen to me today (concerning knitting). I had no one to really discuss it with. So here I am. Hoping I'll have some feedback (oh wait. My board is down. Must fix that.)

As some of you know, the reason for my silence has been my pursuit of my Ed.S. degree. Once a month Maria an I get up at 4 AM are on the road by 4:45 AM, and in Cleveland, TN by 8:00 AM. We are in two classes that Saturday from 8-3 PM with an hour lunch. The days in between are spent working on group projects, reading books, writing a research report, and doing very little knitting.

One of the few days I get to knit is in class. The first day I introduced myself to the class and my professors as a knitter. I informed them that brain theory supports my need to keep my hands busy in order to commit the information to memory (plus, it helps me stay awake despite the sleep deprivation of the night before). Neither said anything about it to me.

Yes. Until now.

Before the Wendesday after class, the students are to submit a reflection to our afternoon professor. I got my response today. In between comments about my reflection and in answering a question I had posed to him, he added a sentence about my knitting. "In future classes please leave your needlework at home." Or something to that effect. I wonder if the other knitter in there got a similar directive. I have had so many of the other students comment on how they wish they could knit (and be able to stay awake) during class.

I replied that I was sorry it was a nuisance. I explained that I was better able to focus during class as based on brain gym/Smart Moves (a book we read in October) theory. I also told him I would not bring it again. We've completed half of the degree. I'm supposed to sit there (and stay awake??) for another 8 meetings? Are you kidding me? Sigh...
