Knitting (and spinning! The Good, the Bad, and the UGLY)

Happy Saturday, everyone!
Today is going to be a fibery day. At 3:00 I'm going to the PINS meeting (Purple Iris tearoom Needleworking Society). Daye is coming, and I'm bringing Maria along for the first time. I think she'll love it! I expect to see some more familiar faces from my old school. Jean, the organizer, has been spreading the word, and she's found some potential members. It's always a blast to be sharing new projects and seeing what everyone else is doing. I'll bring my Creatures of the Reef shawl (I'm now on row 36!). But because it takes too much consentration, I won't work on it there. I will probably start my first Fixation socks. I've got a purple/pink ball I can't wait to begin.

Last weekend Daye and I went to Dahlonega to sit and knit and spin. It was a lot of fun even though the temps were in the mid-upper 80s! There were six or so spinners, a weaver, a couple of us using drop spindles, and Daye was knitting. We went to Magical Threads beforehand, and I bought the Fall 2001 pattern book from Adrienne Vittadini and some Araucania pink wool to make a sweater from the book. So much yarn, so little time...

Sorry about the lack of posting! (hangs head in shame) School is in full swing. My classes are great so far. Even my homeroom of juniors is terrific. We've been in session with kids now for four days and so far, so good.

As for knitting, I'm on row 23 of the Creatures of the Reef Shawl. The pattern is great, and I'm really enjoying knitting it. Now, if only I could find all those little stitch markers I've bought over time...

This weekend Daye and I are going up to Dahlonega to sit on the front porch of the Folkways Center and knit (and spin!) for an hour or two. The owner from the Wauka Valley Farm called me Sunday. She is local (maybe 40 minutes away I imagine) and I had emailed her about coming out and seeing her sheep, fleece, and whatever else there was to see. She told me that after the porch-sitting, we can drive out to her place if we wanted to. Yippee! More local contacts. :)

Not much else here other than I came home a little early with a sore throat and a sinker (sudden tired spell). Oh, and tomorrow is my birthday. Thirty-one and counting. WOW!
