Here's my latest project. I'm a relatively new member of Ravelry. One of the spinning groups has a monthly spin along with a different theme each month. Here's January's:

January Spinning Challenge

January’s theme is Indulge Yourself! You’ve spent all December buying gifts for others, running around during the busy season. Use January to spend a little time on yourself and do a little indulgent spinning. Think of guilty pleasures, fibers you’ve been itching to try, techniques you thought you weren’t good enough to do, or use your new Christmas gifts.

This challenge is for anyone, beginners or skilled spinners. There are only two requirements to participate in any challenge.

1. Start and complete at least one skein (of any length) of yarn fitting the challenge theme during the month of the challenge.
2. Your yarn must be spun on a spindle (drop or support). After all, that is what we’re here for :)
3. Post a photo of your completed yarn before the last day of the month. If you’ve posted in progress pictures, but no completed photo your yarn will not be entered.

As soon as we’ve collected all the submitted entries, a randomized winner will be chosen. This person will get to choose the next months challenge, and a photo of their handspun will be posted on the Spindlers main page.

I had never seen a spindle so small! It isn't easy to spin with, but I love the results.

Tonight I will knit on my sock while watching American Idol. They are in Charleston! I grew up in Summerville (30 minutes away) and can't wait to see what local sites they show.

After I posted yesterday, I went through my too many yahoo emails that build up. It's usually my junk email, but I do have a few keepers. I get emails from various companies with coupons. One I received was a 25 percent off coupon from Borders. So, saving $6, I bought Color in Spinning. Yippee! Can't wait to get it!

I restarted my high school's fiber club today. It was supposed to be three of us, but one had to bail. I will try and advertise it to the students this week for next week's meeting. We stayed until 4:30 and had a nice time. It was nice and cozy in the media center; outside it was very cold and drizzly. Much more fun being inside playing with yarn and working on my current sock than being out in the yuck! I'm doing the Mad Color Weave pattern in Crazy Cotton in blue 87. I'm doing mine toe up on two circulars, and I'm working on the leg.

I went on a little bit of a book spree today. I found a very nice new magazine called Living Crafts. They have cute felt projects (an angel, a couple heart projects, little girl knitted pants (definitely for Anna), a knitted baby doll top I could actually look good in, and two play mats--one knitted and one felted). It also has a great list of toy manufactures in the states that used wood and other natural materials that I may check out. This is the premier issue, and I highly recommend it!

I also found the Interweave Knits Holiday Gifts. Nearly all the patterns are my taste. There are a pair of cable gloves that I will have to make! They are stunning! If you don't already have that issue, get it! I bought mine at B&N, but apparently you can't order it directly as they've sold out (unsurprisingly!).

One other thing that I bought was Teach Yourself Visually: Handspinning. I can never find spinning books on the shelves when I go to bookstores. Today I found one and have already devoured the first 39 pages. I really wish I could knit/spin whilst reading. I could get so much more done that way! One day I would love to get Color in Spinning, but I would have to special order it online. The book I bought today seems to have a lot of the techniques that I want to learn more about. It is neatly organized qith lots of pictures that really work well for my visual learning style.

This is Tulsa from Picasso's Moon in Sarasota, Florida. It is 80 percent merino and 20 percent colonial. I have 4 oz and am only about half finished.
